Mr. Arends was born on March 21,1890 to Willem and Hendrika (Kama) Arends in Almelo, the Netherlands. He came to the United States in 1912, settling in Grand Rapids, Mich.,where on August 20, 1913, he was united in marriage to Miss Jantina Bierling. They moved to Washington in 1920 and in 1936 to Prosser, where they owned and operated the Arends Bakery until 1948. Mr. Arends father and brothers were all bakers.

Mrs. Arends passed away on December 13, 1975, ending the 62 years of marriage. Mr. Arends was also preceded in death by two grandon. He was a lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Church.

Mr. Arends is survived by two sons Bill and Dick and five daughters Reka, Angeline, Jeanette, Marie, and Ida.
