Lloyd was the son of Albert and Nettie Amundson, they were early settlers in the Lower Yakima Valley. Albert and his brother Charlie established Amundson Hardware Co in Sunnyside in 1909, after purchasing the business from J.B. George. Lloyd and his brother, Les, eventually took over the store in the early 1940's. The business was liquidated in 1984, when Lloyd and Les retired.

Lloyd attended Sunnyside schools, graduating from high school in 1933. He later attended the University of Washington. Before joining the family business inn 1941, he worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on the Roza Project in various positions.

Mr. Amundson married Dorothy Mills on May 13, 1939. Mrs. Amundson taught in the Sunnyside school until retiring in 1973. Lloyd was active in the community affairs throughout his life. He served on the City Council for several terms, was chairman of the United Way Fund Drive, worked to establish the local hospital and was a member of the Board of Directors of Sunnyside Valley Memorial Hospital. he was one of the men who helped establish the Lower valley Golf and County Club and he was its first president. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge No. 138 and a charter member of Elks Lodge 2112.

Besides his wife, Dorothy, survivors include three sons, Jim(Jan), Jones, and Bob(Joy); one brother, Les(Helen); three sisters Margaret Mason, Allie Amundson, and Ethel Hilderbrand; five grandsons and nummerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Amundson was preceded in death by a son, John, a sister Alberta Stover; two brothers and a sister who died in infancy.
