Peggy Ambrose, 66, of North Liberty, formerly of Brighton, died at home early Saturday February 16, 2013, following a brief illness. She was born January 14, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant to Joseph O. and Ruth E. Volger Smith. Peggy grew up in the Coppock/Brighton area and graduated from Washington High School in 1965. She married Farrel E. Ambrose January 24, 1973, in Iowa City. He died November 3, 1995. Peggy lived in Colorado, Texas, Missouri and Ohio, but most of her life was spent in Iowa. She worked for Rockwell-Collins in Coralville and had been co-owner of JR Recycling in Brighton. As a homemaker she was very active in the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brighton Saddle Club and the Brighton Volunteer First Responders.
Peggy is survived by her children: Melinda Schnicker, Washington, Misty Jones, Fairfield, Texas, Stanley Ambrose (Mandi) , North Liberty, Kristi Smith (Shane), Ladora, IA, Jackie Ambrose, Iowa City, six grandchildren: Mackenzie, Elizabeth, Abigail, Bradley, Caitlin and Taryn, one great grandchild, Parker, 5 brothers: Jerry Smith (Alice), Jack Smith (Kathie), Dennie Smith and Rick Smith all of Washington, and Tim Smith (Mary), Brighton, and two sisters: Connie Shelangoski (Paul) and Nancy Kelly, both of Brighton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Shirley Gordon and one brother, Gary Smith.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Wednesday February 20, 2013, at the Brighton United Church with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery following cremation. Visitation will open at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present 6:30- 8 P.M. Tuesday evening at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. Memorials for Susan G.
