Jim was raised in Greentown and attended Eastern High School. As a student/athlete, Jim was a part of the longest-winning streak in Indiana High School football history, where he set numerous rushing and scoring records. He also earned academic honors and went on to attend Ball State University on a football scholarship. There he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity. He settled in Schaumburg and enjoyed 30 years with his friends and his students while teaching and coaching at Lake Park High School.
He was survived by his loving sister, Jean Ann Neeman; his three sons, Christopher James Pickett, Ryan Andrew Pickett and James Tyler Pickett; and granddaughter Giselle A. Pickett.
Services were held at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home, Greentown, with the Rev. Greg Townsend officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown, Howard County, Indiana
