Dean W. Christenson was born March 25, 1922 in Theif River Falls, Minnesota, the son of Frank and Ruth (Ahlers) Christenson. He attended school in Litchfield and Minneapolis, graduating from Minneapolis Central High School. Dean attended the University of Minnesota before entering the Army in 1942, where he served as a medic until 1946. He married Marvel Berg at Spicer, MN on August 27, 1948. Dean and Marvel moved from Minneapolis to Alexandria in 1951 where he worked as a salesman for Diversey Chemicals and later sold real estate. The family also owned and operated the Happy Daze Resort on Lake Darling for several years. Dean was a member of the First Lutheran Church, American Legion and a former member of the Archery Club. Dean was an avid outdoorsman and reader. Dean died at the Douglas County Hospital on Tuesday, October 29, 1991 at the age of 69 years. He is survived by his wife Marvel; three sons, David and wife Dana of Spring Valley, Jeff of Williston, North Dakota and Keith of St. Cloud; two daughters; Mary Ellen (Mrs. Tom) Wishon of Newark, Ohio and Jill Marie of Spring Valley; two grandsons; Kyle Wishon of Newark and Bryce Christenson of Williston and several nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert. Dean was buried at Fort Snelling Cememtery with military honors on Thursday, October 31, 1991. A memorial service was held November 1, 1991 at First Lutheran Church with Reverand Ron Otteson and Reverand Keith Lentz officiating. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria.
