PERRY J. EMBRY
LAMAR-Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Konantz-Warden Funeral Home for Perry J. Embry, 81, Lamar, who died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at his home, following a lengthy illness. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Embry Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Embry, of the home; a son, Luther J Embry, Ft. Scott, Kan.; a daughter, Barbara Lee Embry, Lamar; a daughter-in-law, Alice Embry Lord, Springfield; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Wayne Embry in 1986; three brothers, Robert, Willis and Ben Embry and a sister, Virginia Embry.
Mr. Embry was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Fairview, to Luther Park and Hazel (McCartney) Embry. He attended school in Ft. Scott, Kan. After getting married he had a service station and garage at independence corner in Jerico Springs and operated a dairy farm. In 1952 he went to work for Lawn-Boy in Lamar, then later going to work for Beechcraft in Wichita, Kan. He returned to Lamar and became the plant supervisor at Thorco. He then worked for Castlegate Doors in Pittsburg, Kan. until his retirement in 1992. Through the years, he kept his hand in farming.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Lamar.
He married Rita Shanklin on Feb. 2, 1950, at the First Christian Church of Lamar.
