ROBERT L. SIMMONS
LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Konantz-Warden Chapel for Robert L. Simmons, 83, Lamar, who died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Lee Howard and Brother George Haag will officiate. Burial will be in Nigh Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Simmons, of the home; a son, Calvin Simmons and wife Debra, Lamar; a daughter, Jan Simmons Rogers, Raleigh, N.C.; three grandsons, Joshua and wife Julie, Alba, Phillip and wife Ashley, Joplin and Tyler Simmons and friend Brittany, Sheldon; a great-grandson, Isiah Simmons, Alba; a sister, Wanda Michel, Kansas City, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald.
Mr. Simmons was born June 26, 1929, near Arcola in Dade County, to Omer and Maggie (Siders) Simmons. He was a 1947 graduate of Lamar High School. He joined the Army and served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was a lifelong farmer and a rural letter carrier for 37 years.
He was a member of the Hopewell CP Church in rural Lamar.
He married Reba Jones on Aug. 1, 1948, in rural Dade County.
