Lorraine Harriet Anderson was born to Alfred and Minnie (Loftingmoe) Anderson, on July 15, 1922 on the family farm south of Lowry, MN, the second of two children. When she was five the family moved to a house on the east side of Lowry. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry. A life-long member of St. Paul's, she sang in the choir and served as a Sunday School teacher and on various church committees. She attended grade school in Lowry and in 1940 graduated from Glenwood High School. She took violin and piano lessons and with friends played the violin at P.T.A. meetings and other programs. In high school she played violin in the orchestra and sang in the choir.

Lorraine's working career began with babysitting jobs. After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary at the Nash Finch Company in Glenwood. During World War II, she worked at a defense plant in Minneapolis, but moved back to Lowry after the war. She then worked at the bakery in Alexandria until she married. From that time she was a dedicated homemaker and mother but also found time to sell Avon for 20 plus years.

In the 40s, Lorraine met and starting dating a good-looking guy named Elmer Anderson, from Farwell. The first time she went out with him, he had asked to take her home from an Ice Cream Social on a farm close to Norunga Church. While on leave in 1943, Elmer proposed and they were married on January 19, 1946, at her family home in Lowry. Following a honeymoon in Chicago, they took the train home and purchased the family dairy farm near Lowry. In support of the farm work, there were many harvest crew meals and field lunches to prepare. Through the years they had five children - David, Daniel, Dennis, Susan and Jane.

After much soul searching and prayer, they sold the farm in 1973 and moved to a house on Aurora Ave in Lowry. As they were getting older, in 1998 they decided to sell the house, and moved to an apartment – first in Alexandria and then in Lowry for 5 years. In 2004, they moved to Winona Shores assisted living in Alexandria. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in January of 2006, and Elmer passed away in September of that year. Following hip surgery in 2007, Lorraine lived with daughter Susan (Greg) Odell at their Sonshine Villa adult foster care home.

Over the years, Lorraine's favorite activities included spending time with friends and her sister Orlyn roller skating or bicycling around the town and ice skating at the Lowry rink. And later there was the ‘Skelly' bowling team which she enjoyed for many years. She enjoyed baking, Christmas preparations (especially cookie baking), some gardening and there were many hours of playing Rook and Chinese checkers. Playing hymns on the organ was also a favorite pastime. She had a witty sense of humor and saw the positive side of any situation.

Lorraine loved and enjoyed her family, and her life was one of example, both in actions and her love of the Lord. She was a selfless lady – everyone else was more important. She thought of and prayed for her children and grandchildren every day. As a young woman, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and loved reading the Bible and having devotions.

Lorraine passed away Thursday evening June 16th at Bethany Home in Alexandria. Blessed be her memory.
