WET MOUNTAIN TRIBUNE [CUSTER CO., CO], JANUARY 22, 2004
SERVICES HELD FOR WESTCLIFFE'S LOLA BAKER, 62
Long-time Valley resident Lola M. Baker died on Monday, January 5,
2004, following a brief stay at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. She was 62.
Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 4, 1941, in Colorado Springs to Kenneth and "Dilly"
Gray. As a child, her family moved to Pueblo where Lola was raised with her three
younger siblings. She met her husband, Bob, at a dance in Pueblo and the
couple married on June 10, 1960, and made their home in Westcliffe. Bob Baker
was Custer County sheriff for many years and Mrs. Baker worked in his office
during that time. She also served as a cook at Custer County School, a career that
began in the late 1980s until her recent retirement as head cook. As school
cook, Mrs. Baker often would remind students and teachers that she was
serving their favorite meal in the cafeteria that day, and she even served special
meals to students who might need to lose or gain a few pounds to compete in the
proper weight class for her favorite sport, wrestling. Mrs. Baker was an avid
fan of sports activities at Custer County School. She is survived by her
husband of 43 years, Bob; and children Brad (and wife, Jennifer) Baker of
Franklin, Tex.; Keith (and wife , Angie) Baker of Westcliffe; and daughter Kim (Mrs.
Neil) Miller of Littleton. Mrs. Baker is also survived by one granddaughter,
Amy Noelle Baker of Franklin, Tex.; and a sister and two brothers: Carol,
Clifford, and Larry. Memorial services were held Jan. 9 at St. Luke's Episcopal
Church with pastors Diane Bell and Michael Percival officiating. Mrs. Baker
was cremated. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the
