He married Angelina Kelley of Preston Co, WV approximately 1851 and they soon moved with their folks to Washington Co, Iowa to farm. They had James, Joseph and Robert Parker Beaty before the Civil War.
Robert signed up for the Civil War on Aug 15, 1862, but died on November 9, 1862, just 3 months later, from sickness, in Keokuk, Lee Co, Iowa. He served with Co E, Iowa 30th Infantry Regiment.
