Walnut Street at 5 o'clock thursday afternoon. Mr. Phares had been a resident of Grayson County for the past 68 years and had lived in Sherman for the past ten years. He had been a successful farmer. Born in Nashville, Tennessee Jan 1 1850 Mr Phares left Tennessee at the age of eleven and moved with his parents to Grayson County. He had been a member of the Baptist church for many years and was a member of the First Baptist church in Sherman at the time of his death. He is survied by his widow Mrs Laura J. Phares and five sons and three daughters. The latter are Rance, Herbert, David and J.J. Phares of Sherman and Roy Phares of Clarksville and Mrs. R. C. Helvey, Mrs. Walter Sollis and Mrs. J. M. Sims all of Sherman. Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon from the First Baptist church, with Dr. J. A. Ellis, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Akers cemetery south of Sherman. Active pall bearers were Joe Lankford, P.J. Waldrop, C.D. Pierce, Lee Agnew, Claude Dilden and Edgar Peveto. According to his son Leslie's WW1 enrollment card C. Berry was born in Sumner County, Tennessee, on ancestry.com some say he was born in Jackson, Madison, Tennessee.
