Helen Jennefee Handy passed away at home the day after her birthday with her family by her side. Helen was born in Eureka, Kansas in 1916 to the parents Frank E. Lanham and Cornelia R. Lanham (Munday). She was raised on their farm in Kansas and was the youngest of 8 children. She married Cecil Charles Handy on May 11th, 1934 in Haysville, Kansas. They had 4 children Bradley Handy, Gary L Handy, Adeline K Handy, and Craig A. Handy. They moved from Kansas to make their home in Inglewood,CA on 113th street. My grandmother Helen told me the story that her grandmother told her about the Dalton family that lived down the road from them in Kansas in the 1880's. The Dalton brothers mother told my gg grandmother about the government taking land or something and the Dalton brothers were pissed off and wanted revenge on the government. My gg grandmother said the Dalton's mother was a very nice lady and kept to herself. The Dalton brothers were killed trying to rob banks. My dad told me of a sign in Coffey-ville, Kansas where the gun battle took place. I know the stories change as the generations continue. Helen and the family lived in Wichita, Benton, & Greenwood, Kansas. Helen Handy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and wife. She also was an excellent canner, making lime pickles, jam, pies and other wonderful dishes. I will miss her lime pickles and her love she had for us all. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Lanham, Cornelia R. Lanham, her husband Cecil C. Handy, her son Craig A. Handy, her brother Donald Lanham, sister Ruth D. Campbell. She lost her little brother Raymond Lanham to a illness in 1912. She is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Adeline K. Barron of Nampa, Idaho. Her son Gary L. Handy of Albany,OR. Her favorite saying was she was going to live to be 100 and drive us all crazy. She lived to be 89. Grandma we all enjoyed every minute we had together with you. Thank you grandma for taking care of your grandson when I was sick. I also was able to take care of you in your last years and enjoyed what time I had with you. We love you grandma.
