Martha "Patsy" Buchanan was born January 14, 1788 in Kentucky; daughter of John Buchanan and "Ginny" Edmiston. She married Coleman Cox on May 10, 1808 in Logan County, Kentucky, and they were to have seven children.
About 1818, Martha and Coleman Cox sold their land in Kentucky and removed to Arkansas Territory. With them came Coleman's brother, Jackson, and Martha's father, her stepmother, and some of her brothers and grown nephews.
Martha's father, John Buchanan, became ill on the trip and died soon after their arrival at Crystal Hill, Arkansas, which is near Little Rock on the Arkansas River.
John Buchanan's will, which names Coleman Cox as one of his executors, was the first will recorded in Pulaski County, Arkansas. John Buchanan's will was recorded and attested to in court on August 14, 1820 by Coleman Cox and Jackson Cox.
This group of people later settled on the Big Mulberry in what is now Franklin County, Arkansas. Martha Buchanan Cox died at that location, which was then Crawford County, after giving birth to her seventh child, John Cox.
