Orle A. Hannas, a retired Garfield County rancher and longtime Clarkston resident, died of causes related to age Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Clarkston. He was 96.
He was born Feb. 2, 1906, to Ole and Guri Hannas at Mayview, near Pomeroy. He went to county schools in Garfield County and graduated from Clarkston High School. Following high school, he attended Lewiston Business College.
Orle and Maude Gray were married Aug. 12, 1933, in Lewiston. He farmed and raised cattle in Garfield County for many years. In 1965, they moved from the farm into Clarkston and he worked for Lewiston Grain Growers from 1966 to 1971.
Orle was a 52-year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a longtime member of the Mayview Grange, the Cattleman's Association and the Pautler Senior Center at Clarkston. He was named Cattleman of the Year in 1965 and Honored Pioneer of Pomeroy in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Maude of Clarkston; two sons, Orle Hannas Jr. and his wife, Carol, of St. John and LeRoy Hannas and his wife, Harriet, of Pomeroy; two daughters, Helen Lehfeldt of Clarkston and Sharon Harkins of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Hannas; and two grandsons, Mike Kruse and Jim Sebree.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston. The Revs. Howard Neal and Frank Musgrave of the Pomeroy Christian Church will officiate. A graveside service will be held at the Mayview Cemetery at a later date.
