John Kennedy (also spelled Canady) was born during the Presidency of George Washington. He was born April 1791 to John Kennedy (Canady) and his wife Nancy.
In the spring of 1828, John and Elizabeth Carroll Kennedy came from South Carolina with their five children in a covered wagon to claim their land in Dark Corners (Winston) Georgia. James, William, Polly Ann, Harrison and Nancy Sims settled in the mist of Indians in newly formed Campbell County Georgia with their parents. In time John and Elizabeth would be the parents of ten children.
John was a farmer and later in life kept a tavern. People going to market in August would stop and sit beside a big log fire and tell tales far into the night. Travelers would sip on peach brandy as mellow as honey.
John died 28 Oct 1848 and is buried in the family cemetery.
