Born in Tyler, Texas, Mike has been a resident of Cobb County, Georgia, since 1990. He was involved in the lumber and wood truss industry for over 25 years beginning in Arlington, Texas, and transferring to Georgia in 1990. Mike's greatest pleasure in life was his family and his grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife, Susan, daughters and son-in-law Lindsay and Matt Faircloth, Hayley Bass, of Dallas, Georgia; sisters and brother-in-law Pat and Harold Speer of Mansfield, Texas; Pam and Grady Ware of Fort Worth, Texas, and grandson Nathan and Drew Faircloth.
Mike and Susan are members of Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga. The memorial service for Mike was conducted by Pastor Ernest Easley.
Excerpts from Mike's eulogy:
Susan always said "I'm not responsible for anything he says or how he acts. I'm only married to him."
When Lindsay and Matt were married, Mike cried.
I mentioned Bentley and Shelby earlier. They are Hayley's yellow Labrador retrievers, and when Hayley needed someone to watch them, she dropped them off at Mike's Doggy Daycare Center. Shelby and Bentley became Mike's homebound ministers when he became too ill to work. Mike loved those dogs just as if they were children.
Hayley told me this about her Dad:
"Daddy is the most generous and selfless person I have ever known. He gave everything he had to Lindsay, Mom, and me, even when he didn't have much. He made sure we had whatever we wanted growing up, and hated for us to ever have our feelings hurt."
"Whenever Lindsay and I had dessert, Dad would say, "That doesn't look very good, you better let me taste it first."
"And whenever there was banana pudding, we always saved the last serving for my Dad."
Mike always said to his daughters, "I just missed being a doctor (or lawyer or engineer) by this much." (fingers about 1 inch apart)
