Lila was born in West Gore, Hants Co., Nova Scotia, the daughter of Joshua Arthur and his first wife Sarah Malinda (MacDonald) Wallace. Lila was the only child from this marriage before her mother died. She married James Arthur McAssey on September 7, 1881 in watertown, Massachusetts. They had seven children. Lila died at her son Wilbur's house in Stow, Massachusetts.
