Joseph Willis, Jr. was born to Joseph and Margaret "Peggy" Suttle Willis, on June 3, 1812, in Franklin County, Georgia. Joseph was the youngest of seven children and his siblings were Elizabeth "Betsy", William, Lucinda Suttle, John, Charlotta "Charity", and Partheny Willis.
In 1834, Joseph married Elizabeth S. Lesley in Fulton, Georgia. Together they had ten children. Their children were Alston A., Vandoosan Vastie, Sarah Antoinette, Parthena Georgia, Joseph Dekalb, Malvin America, Matilda Taylor, William John Franklin, Clarmon Alice Thomason, and George Washington Jackson.
Joseph's wife Elizabeth died in 1859. In 1860, Joseph married Sarah G. Strickland in Fulton, Georgia. Together they had three children and they were Albert M., Elizabeth, and Isaac A. Newton.
On June 9, 1875, in Stone's District, Fulton County, Georgia, Joseph Willis, Jr. passed away.
