Birth: Jun. 13, 1879
Tennessee, USA
Death: Sep. 13, 1943

Texas, USA

"Nan", Nancy Thatcher Ford, was born to Charles Franklin and America Clementine Guinn Ford on June 13, 1879 in Tennessee. Nan had eleven siblings and they are William Lafayette, Charlotte Jane "Jenny", Evelyn Cordui "Eve", Mary Caldona "Cal", Martha Savannah "Amy", James Thomas "Tom", Charles Bostian "Boss", Baby, Elena Bell "Kenny", Gano Eads and Lela Temple Ford.

She married John William Prescott on August 8, 1897, in Cameron, Milam County, Texas. Together they had eight children and they are, Lois Prescott Hess, William Conley, Lola Prescott Westbrook, Lela Prescott Christilles, Daniel Lafayette Prescott, John "Terrol" Prescott, Charlie Ford Prescott, Sr. and little Reba Guinn Prescott.

While on a trip together, John William,"Billy", ate some bad walnuts and died, October 26, 1907. John's father, Jackson Lafayette Prescott offered to take care of her and eight children, there in Elba, Alabama but Nan wanted to go back home to Texas. Nan's father, Charlie brought her and the children back to Texas in a wagon.

Nan had a very difficult time finding the money to keep the family together, as she had little skills. She tried sewing clothes for other people but could not make enough money to keep them clothed and fed. She took the eight children to an orphanage in Dallas, Texas so that she could earn enough money to bring them home. Nan sent money and clothing for the children as she could. In the Orphan Home in Dallas, the children were split up according to age and sex. The children that were able to work, worked very hard. In the fall, Reba Guinn became very ill. Lois, being the oldest child did not hear of the illness until the home had notified Nan to come get Reba as she was dying. When Nan arrived and saw her other children in rags and learned from the children that they had not recieved the money or clothing that she sent, she took all the children back home. Nan was determined to do the best she could for them, however little it might be. After struggling alone, for several years, Nan decided to marry Jim Dodson, November 27, 1921, but the children objected and so Nan divorced him. Some of Nan's children went to live with some of their aunts and uncles. Nan worked on a farm as a tenant farmer. In 1935, Nan married her sister's widowed husband, Roy Sample, and lived with him until her death, September 13, 1943. Nancy died of heart disease. Nan was loved by her children and family, dearly.
