Donald Ira MacIvor, 89, passed away on July 23, 2013 in Marysville, California. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 07, 1923.
He was raised in Detroit and dropped out of High School at the age of 17 to join the Marines. His eighteenth birthday was Pearl Harbor Day, and he was sent to the Pacific Theatre, where he fought valiantly in such battles as Peleliu and Guadalcanal. He was the last surviving member of his first Marine Division of 1941.
After the war, he met the love of his life, Isabelle A. Weber, whom he affectionately referred to as "Diz". On December 20, 1947 they were married and enjoyed 67 wonderful years of marriage.
Donald served in the military for 23 years, including joining the Army and serving as an officer in the Korean War. During his career, he achieved a Silver Star, among fifteen other medals. He retired from the Army and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from the University of San Francisco.
In 1965, he moved to Yuba City, California, where he remained for the rest of his days. While in the Yuba-Sutter area, he worked for Cal-trans for 20 years as a Right of Way agent, as well as being a Docent at the Train Museum in Old Sacramento, and Range Master of the Rifle Range until three years ago.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Taylor, and his father, Donald MacIvor.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Isabelle A. MacIvor, of Yuba City; his children, Douglas MacIvor and Linda Moore both of Yuba City; four grandchildren: Jennifer Rymer and William MacIvor of Redding, California, Cameron Moore and Andrew Moore, both of Yuba City; six great-grandchildren, and a sister.
Services will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:00am.
