|Birth: ||Dec. 25, 1845|
|Death: ||Nov. 28, 1927|
Samuel Abbott, the only son of the late Abraham and Barbara Hoover Abbott, the subject of this brief sketch, was born near Millville, Henry Co., IN on December 25, 1845. On November 28, 1927, he calmly and peacefully fell into that eternal sleep. Age 81 years, 11 months and 3 days.
He was of a family of eight, having seven sisters: Mrs. Catherine (Jacob) Caster, Mrs. Mary (Harvey) Waltz, Mrs. Margaret (George) Newey, Mrs. Elizabeth Mills, Mrs. Sarah (David) Shell, Mrs. Rachel (William) Waltz and Mrs. Susan Ann Favorite. His sisters have all preceded him except Catherine Castor of Leon, IA, who is now 90 years of age.
On April 15, 1870, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Richardson, who so recently passed out of this life. It was June 30, 1927, that she was called away.
He had been in failing health for a number of months since the passing of his companion. His health declined very rapidly.
His home was blessed with six children, four daughters and two sons. They were: Mrs. Minnie Belle (Granville) Keever of Muncie, IN, Mrs. Flora Alice (Harry) Moschell of Pittsburg, PA, Mr. Charles Edward (Nellie) Abbott of Mooreland, IN, Mrs. Leatha Ellen (Vinson) Inco of Cambridge City; Ardella May and Franklin H. (Rose Ann) Abbott, the later two having preceded their parents to the spirit world a number of years ago.
Bro. Abbott was an ardent member of the Church of God at the Chicago Corner Church. He, with his companion, became identified with the church January 14, 1890. He was very loyal and faithful to the church of his choice. He leaves a living testimony of a sweet communion with his Lord and Master.
For a number of years, he with his companion, made their home with their daughter, Leatha, and husband Mr. Vinson Inco, who gave the best of care.
He leaves to mourn his departure, three daughters and one son as above named, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one sister, and also a large number of other relatives and friends.
There is a land where beauty cannot fade,
Nor sorrow dim the eye;
Where true love shall not droop or be dismayed,
And none shall ever die.
Ye stars are but the shining dust
Of my divine abode;
The pavement of those heavenly courts,
Where I shall reign with God.
Funeral services were held at the Brick Church, near Hagerstown, IN, December 1, 1927, Rev. C. H. Holaday officiating. Burial in cemetery adjoining the church.
