Janyce L. "Jan" Albert, 79, of Rockford, IL died peacefully Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, after a short rehab stay at WI Rapids Nursing and Rehab Center, WI Rapids, near her family.

Jan was born July 27, 1932, to Howard C. and Glenola Mae (Masters) Blessing in Toledo, OH. She attended OH Wesleyan University and MI State University, graduating in 1953 with a BA from MI State. She married John R. Albert on Aug. 7, 1954, in Toledo, OH. She and John had two sons, John R. "Jack" Jr. and James H. before John died in 1963. Jan obtained her Masters degree in 1980 from IA State University. Jan had a long career as a human resources specialist, business educator, bank consultant and community volunteer. She worked as the assistant personnel manager/training supervisor for Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Toledo, OH from 1953 to 1956; teacher of adult education, Tenafly (NJ) public schools from 1966 to 1970; personnel/training officer/education manager, IA Dept. of Transportation in Ames, IA from 1974 to 1977; college recruiting coordinator, Rockwell International in Cedar Rapids, IA, from 1977 to 1979 and engineering administration manager, from 1979 to 1980; employee relations and job evaluation analyst, recruiter for Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville, OK, from 1980 to 1981; vice president, director of personnel, Republic Bancorp in Tulsa, OK, from 1981 to 1983; senior vice president and director of human resources, First National Bank in Rockford, IL from 1983 to 1994; director of business division, Rock Valley College, from 1994 to 1999; human resources consultant, Furst Group in Rockford from 2000 to 2006; advisor to National Professional Secretaries Association; member of the Advisory Committee, Zion Development Group, from 2000 to 2006; board of directors, Rocvale Children's Home, 1986 to 1997 and 1999 to 2001; board of directors, United Way of Ames, IA, from 1976 to 1977; Rockford Human Resources Community Action Program, 1988 to 1992; Rockford Leadership Foundation 1994 to 1996; board member, Kagawong Heritage Museum, Ontario, Canada, from 2009 to 2011; member, employee service committee, Rockford Public Schools, 1988 to 1992; account executive, United Way of Rockford, 1993 to 1998; chairman, legislative committee, Rockford Human Services Dept., 1989 to 1992; chairman, Rockford, State of IL Job Services Employers Council, 1990 to 1997; taskforce, Rockford Board of Education 1993 to 1994; advisor, Rockford Chapter ARC, 1991 to 2004; Mayor's Task Force for Rockford Project Self-Sufficiency, 1986 to 1989; board of directors, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, 1992 to 1995; chairman, Rockford Central Area Commerce, 1997 to 1999; board of directors, Rock Valley College Foundation, 2000 to 2003; member of Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 2005 to 2009; charter board member, Riverside Community Bank, 1992 to 2003; recipient of YWCA Kate O'Connor award for Women in Labor Force, 1984; Rockford Athena Chapter, 1991; National Athena Foundation Woman of the Year, 1991; member of World Trade Council, PEO Chapter, Womanspace, Rockford Panhellenic Council, Rockford Women's Club, Gore Bay, Ontario Rotary Club, Rockford Rotary International, Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta and Sigma Epsilon. Jan loved spending time with her family and her many friends, from near and far. Besides her home in Rockford, IL Jan spent a lifetime of summers on Manitoulin Island, Kagawong, Ontario, Canada, where she loved sitting on her dock with her very special Scottish Terrier, Bailey, by her side.

Jan was predeceased by her parents; and husband, John.

Survived by sons, John R. "Jack" (Jill) Albert Jr. of WI Rapids and James (Chris) Albert of Brodhead, WI; grandchild, Kaylyn; step-grandchildren, Alissa, and Austin; sister, Betty (Thomas) Fredrickson of Champaign. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Bailey.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, the WI Rapids Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Riverview Hospital, both in WI Rapids, for their care and compassion they had for Jan.

A special thanks goes out to Jan's friends and neighbors, for their help, love, and support through the years.

Memorial visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford. Memorial Service at 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal rescue organization of choice, as Jan was a supporter of more than 55 animal rescue organizations.
