Columbus, Georgia- Donald Ray Blaxton, 84, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, February 28, 2013 in St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 2, 2013 in Beallwood Baptist Church with interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery according to Striffler - Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. Rev. Billy Duncan and Rev. David Dollar will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Philip Authement, Terry Blaxton, Gary Blaxton, Terry Blaxton, Jr, Garrett Blaxton, and Tanner King. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons and members of Berean Sunday School Class of Beallwood Baptist Church.
Mr. Blaxton was born May 22, 1928 in LaGrange, GA. the son of the late Thomas Clark Blaxton and the late Lexie Mae Calhoun Blaxton. He had lived in Columbus most of his life and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed with Lummus Industry in the shipping department for thirty years, retiring as a supervisor from Bickerstaff Brick, and was a driver for the Muscogee County School District for over twelve years.
Mr. Blaxton was member and deacon of Beallwood Baptist Church and Berean Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Molly Grace Mordic; two sisters, Jacqueline Stringer and Barbara Ann Granberry; two brothers, Clifford Blaxton and James Blaxton.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary A. Blaxton; his children, Pam Authement and husband, Philip of Cataula, Gary L. Blaxton and wife, Barbara of Reidsville, GA, and Terry R. Blaxton and wife, Sharon of Columbus; seven grandchildren, April Smith and husband, Adam, Terry Blaxton, Jr. and wife, Jessica, Amber Mordic and husband, Charlie, Haley Wallace and husband, Ben, Ramsey Blaxton, Garrett Blaxton, and Lauren Blaxton; four great-grandchildren, Tanner King, Harrisen Smith, Makayla Blaxton, and Terry Blaxton, III; two sisters, Nancy Wilbourn and her husband, James, Brenda Jones and her husband, Eddie; one brother, Norman C. Blaxton and his wife, Genny; many nieces and nephews, and a special caregiver, Mary Burch.
