Mr. Ervin (Ernie) Eckhardt,65, of 2602 S. 17th St., Sheboygan, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly Monday, February 22, 1988 in San Jose, Calif., while vacationing. He was born January 19, 1923 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Caspar and Sophie Weber Eckhardt. Ervin attended Trinity Lutheran School and Central High School, graduating in 1941. Ervin entered the United States Army in 1943 serving in the European Theatre until being discharged in 1945. While in the Army he received the Purple Heart for battle injuried suffered in Germany. Ervin also received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
On December6, 1947 he married the former Fay Fahl in Sheboygan Falls. Ervin worked for over 31 years at the Sheboygan Post Office retiring December 31, 1986 as the Superintendent-Postal Operations.
Ervin was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he was on the Board of Elders, the Stewardship Committee, and the Building Committee. Ervin was also a member of the Sheboygan YMCA, Riverdale Golf Club and the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include his wife, Fay; three sons Jeffrey (Pat Marshall) of Erie, Pa., Joel of Milwaukee and David of Sheboygan; two daughters, Mrs. Peter (Wendy) Bemis and Mrs. Gary (Pam) Dekker, both of Sheboygan; six grandchildren; two brothers, William and Charles both of Sheboygan; on sister, Mrs David (Agnes) Hartmann of Kent, Wa. Ervin was preceded in death by one sister.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 27, 1988, 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Rev. William Redeker, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. uintil time of services.
A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Eckhardt's name.
