Johann "August" Auer was born in St. Wendel to Johann Auer and Maria Barbara Stauder. He was baptized in the St. Wendel Catholic Church on 24 September 1827. He was the 10th child of 16 known children. He immigrated in 1846 from Antwerp to the Port of New York on the ship Ontario with his older brother Frederick. He was Naturalized 1 November 1852 in the Baltimore Criminal Court.

He married Anna Fredricka Reichman on 21 June 1853 in the St. Alphonsus Church in Baltimore, Maryland. They had 10 known children, namely: William Theodore, Margaret Nannetta, Emma Wilhelmina Margaret, August Henry, Joseph Henry Adolph, John Francis, Child [name unknown at this time], Clara, Edward Charles, and August [adopted.]

"August" Auer was a witness to his brother Anton's horrible death from rabies. In fact, Anton might have been living with August when he died.

August had several different occupations. After arriving in Baltimore, he was a Tavern Keeper with his brothers, he was also a Grocer and Post Master in Carrollton until he became a Florist on Frederick Rd.

He was 86 years old at the time of his death from Senile Arterio Sclerosis & Acute Bronchitis.
