Studied at Phillips Andover Academy and Teacher's Seminary , Andover, MA. Married Anstice Wilson on 12 May 1834 and sailed that month from Boston to India reaching Ahmednugger, India Oct 15, 1834. Returned to America in 1847 for health reasons. Attended Andover Theological Seminary and was ordained a minister. Returned to India as missionaries. In 1869 returned to America and studied at the medical college of Philadelphia. Practiced medicine in Nebraska for several years. Moved to the Isle of Wight, England to live with their daughter.
Nine known children: Elizabeth Augusta, Abigail Ann, Anstice, Chloe, Amos Wilson, Emily, Albert Armstrong, Bertha and Justin Edwards Abbott.
