Mary Ellen Logsdon
"There is a reaper whose name is death,
And with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath
And the flowers that grow between."
Mary Ellen Logsdon, only child of Preston B and Mary Logsdon, was born Aug. 28, 1899, departed this life May 31, 1925, aged 25 years,
9 months and 3 days.
Ellen was a member of the Rebekah lodge and the Royal Neighbors. She was born and reared in Luce Township and attended the common schools, Rockport high school and Oakland City college. After her college work she entered Deaconess hospital to take the training course of
professional nurse. She had spent almost two years in preparations for her life work when her summons came.
Her quiet, sunny disposition made her the idol of her parents, her aunt, Mrs. Lida Richardson, and a host of loving friends. She was a professed Christian and when the final moment came "she approached her grave like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies
down to pleasant dreams."
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jones, of Evansville, at the home near Eureka Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial was at the Sunset Hill.
The Rebekah lodge of Rockport officiated at the grave.
