The son of Charles Tate and Cora (Smith) Butler, Samuel F. Butler was born in Daisy, Evans County, GA. He and Essie Gladys Rigney were married on Feb. 1, 1930 in Miami, Florida. They made their home for many years in Coral Gables, where they owned and operated a hardware store. To this union were born four children: Delois, Lorraine, Cranston and Frank.

After retirement, they moved to Clermont, Lake County, FL and lived there several years before moving again to Duluth, a suburb of Atlanta, GA.

After the death of his wife in 1986, Mr. Butler moved to Carrolton, Carroll County, GA, where he lived with his son, Frank, until his death. He leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Delois and Lorraine (and her husband, Carl Howard), two sons, Cranston and Frank, grandchildren Brenda Howard, Troy and Debbie Butler, and many other relatives and friends.
