William Dean was an Englishman who came to America around the turn of the 19th century. He lived in Portland and Skamania, Washington. Dean eventually became a streetcar conductor. His future wife, Amelia Bowman, was a seamstress and liked to recall how she met her future husband, William Dean. It seems Amelia was getting ready to board one of Dean's streetcars when the car pulled away and went along its way. Amelia chased the streetcar several blocks before she caught up with it, scolded the conductor and then the two seemed to connect. They were married around 1907.
William and Amelia had four children together. He died in 1947 and she in 1964. They are interred together in Portland Oregon at Lincoln Memorial Park.
