Abner Vincent Wilcox was the son of Oliver Wells and Harriet Vincent Wilcox of Nottawa Township, Michigan.
Shortly after the Civil War began, he enlisted at age 20 in Company A, Michigan 11th, Infantry Regiment on August 24, 1861 at Centreville, Michigan. His rank was Corporal.
He was wounded and taken prisoner at Chattanooga, Tennesee after fighting in the Wauhatchie battle, which began the battle of Chattanooga. He did not survive his injuries and was officially mustered out on Oct 29, 1863 at Chattanooga, TN.
