George Ax, son of John Frederick and Elizabeth (Maulsby) Ax. Lieutenant Colonel Ax served in the Berks County Militia from 1777 to 1784. In 1777, he served as an Ensign in the 1st Company and then as Captain in the 4th Battalion commanded by Colonel Joseph Hiester. In 1780, he was a captain in the 6th Company.
