James Albert "Bert" Simon was the son of Abram/Abraham Reger Simon & Mary "Molly" Jane Wine Simon. He was born in NE but lived for a few years near Devil's Tower in WY with his family. He had 3 brothers: Joseph, Guy & Wallie and one sister: Bessie.
He married Emily Ethel Drain in NE. To this union was born 1 child, a son: Leon Joe Simon.
James, Emily & Leon eventually moved to Florida where James owned/operated a barber shop.
"A bit of history": According to son, Leon, his father, James, ran away from home at the age of 13 while the family was living on a homestead in WY . . . after Abram, his father, had ask him to "go bring in the cattle". James apparently did not want to do this chore and said, "Why can't one of my brothers bring in the cattle"? Abram apparently replied: "Because I told you to bring in the cattle". James, apparently, then and there decided to run away. That first winter, a sheep herder fed him. He also managed to survive by "moving from ranch to ranch working as a horse breaker". Another job saw him driving a freight wagon, until he eventually went to barber college. He finally returned home 9 years later, walked in the front door (to his parent's home) and simply said . . . "I couldn't find the darn cows"!!
James' uncle (Jacob Simon) was my great grandfather.
