Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Community church for Mrs. John W. Anson, pioneer resident of Glenrock who died Friday, Dec. 23, at the age of 82.
The services were conducted by Rev. Alan Gordon, assisted by Rev. E. M. Wilson, and Golden West Chapter No. 37, OES. Miss Karen Lehner, vocalist, was accompanied by Mrs. Dan Danaher.
Pallbearers were Leonard Bartshe, Richard Brubaker, Claud Thomas, Erick Olin, Nile Plummer and Charles McQueary. Burial was made in the Glenrock Cemetery under the direction of Kennaugh and Stark.
Mrs. Anson, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah Williams, was born on November 28, 1878, at Hubbard, Ohio. She came to Glenrock in 1886, as a young girl of eight and was educated in the local schools.
She was married to John W. Anson in 1896 at Douglas. Mr. Anson was employed at the mines in Glenrock for a number of years. Later the family moved to their ranch, now known as the Moffett ranch. The family moved into town where Mr. Anson operated the Anson-Wood Garage and apartments and for a number of years owned and operated a grocery store. Mr. Anson died in 1941.
Mrs. Anson was one of the early members of the First Baptist church, being baptized in 1922, and was one of the supporters and builders of the present Community church building.
She became a charter member of Golden West Chapter No. 37, OES, at the time of the chapter organization in 1924. She held minor offices for a number of years and in 1928 was elected chaplain, a position she held for 28 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. William Wood of Glenrock, Mrs. Paula Thomas of Colorado Springs and Mrs. Elbridge Brubaker of Fort Leavenworth; one son, Thomas Anson of Glenrock; four brothers, Thomas Williams of Thermopolis and William, Robert and Edward Walkinshaw of Glenrock; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
