Adelaide Bettencourt was born in Honolulu Oahu Republic Of Hawai'i on October 16th 1897 her parents were:Augustinho Augustine de Medeiros Bettencourt & Jacentha Maria Medeiros da Costa - Her father died (from a well known wine incident in 1900's )and her mother died 8 yrs later in 1908 leaving her an orphan . Her older siblings were unable to raise her so she was given to the orphanage where the nuns raised her and taught her everything. They lived and her father worked as a veternarian "Horse" they lived right across the armory where her father worked / resided.. (parents are buried in Catholic-King Street Cemetery) Her first marriage was to E.Johnson in which she had two daughters and she later married Adam Dias daSilva and had more children .She not only mothered children but helped maintain the animals,sewing teaching her girls to do the same and also in an old Portuguese oven they had up in Punchbowl made bread and even Portuguese Sausage for their grocery store on Lusitana.. she also hanai'd a son .. She was a strict and hard working lady..She later worked at the Detention Home for many years where she retired.. She then taught those girls . They moved to Kailua Beach and that is where she lived until her passing. The thing that many people who may remember her was that she was an excellent chef/cook...
