Alice Ruth (Mimi) Brentzel, 85, of Baytown, Texas passed away on June 1, 2012. She was born in Colmesneil, Texas on April 27, 1927 to Hardy and Allie Marshall, grew up on a nearby farm and attended school in Chester, Texas. She graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas with an education degree. While attending college, she met her husband, the late Bill Brentzel. They were married for 56 years. She spent many years as an educator in the Deer Park, Crosby, and Goose Creek school districts.
She was a 50 year member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and now St. Mark's Methodist Church. She loved her church activities and especially the Sunday lunches after church with her special group of friends. Ruth was a founding member of the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital Volunteer Corp which she also looked forward to every Monday.
Mimi had many activities that kept her busy, but the most important activities were those that involved her grandchildren. You might find her at a softball/baseball or soccer game, dance recital, volleyball games, or a theatrical production. Mimi was the proudest grandmother and their biggest fan!
She had several passions and one was shopping all day long. She especially loved purses and jewelry and shopping for and with her grandchildren. Baking and eating dessert were some of her happiest times, but her favorite food might have been fresh, Texas peaches. She could also talk on the phone for hours, being a good listener, giving unsolicited advice, yet being very sympathetic. Many times her grandchildren heard her say, "Bless your heart."
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Brentzel. She is survived by sons Mark Brentzel and wife, LeAnn of Taylor Lake Village and Brent Brentzel and wife, Jill of Nassau Bay, and Sue Chatham and husband, Mike of Baytown. Mimi also leaves to cherish her memory five grandchildren: Lauren Brentzel of Houston, Julia and Jakob Brentzel of Nassau Bay, Kasey de Jonckheere and husband Dave of Houston, and Jaime Ball and husband Brian of Houston. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including special nieces Janet Smith and Donna McGill, whom she talked to regularly.
Visitation will be on Monday night from 6:00 - 8:00 at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Navarre Funeral Home, followed by burial in the Bethany Cemetery, Colmesneil on Tuesday, at 3:00 p.m.
