Noah was the bachelor son of Asa R. and Nancy Ann Clarke Bateman. When the Civil War broke out, he volunteered and was enlisted, as a Wagoner, on July 2, 1862 in Paris, Ky and was mustered in on August 16, 1862. He served with his regiment until the end of the war and was mustered out on July 10, 1865 in Edgefield, Tennessee.
Throughout the years, Noah earned his living by working as a farmer and as a hired hand. In 1881 he applied for, and was granted, a disability pension based upon his military service. Mr. Bateman passed away from the effects of lobar pneumonia, with a duration of four days.
