Beverly Anne Cooper Amos, much loved mother, friend, advocate and neighbor, died on Jan. 7, 2014, in Illinois, at the age of 81 years.

Beverly was born Nov. 27, 1932, in Lebanon, to the now late Glenn and Myrtle Mae Cooper. She graduated from Lebanon High School and then attended one year of nursing school at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.

She then began her greatest challenge and inspiration raising a family. After marrying Charles Amos, she proceeded to pour her unconditional love into raising each of her nine children, an occasional grandchild and others in need of a family. Her love was humble and open, her heart and home accepting, and she rarely judged anyone of any age who needed help and hope. She listened. She shared her time, money and belongings with others, taking less for herself than for others. Through many difficult and tragic times, she remained a devout Catholic, praying every day for family and friends.

At times through the years, she also kept books at Schlesinger's Nursing Home in Beaumont, Texas, managed Royal Nursing Services in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Signature Car Lot in Austin, Texas, before retiring from Southern Union Gas Company in 2001.

Simple things gave Beverly pleasure, like a good cup of coffee, sweets, reading by the fireplace, playing cards and games, baking and relaxing while washing dishes. None could rival her homemade noodles. She went to as many kids' and grandkids' ballgames, performances and awards ceremonies as she could. She loved traveling with her kids and her sister Betty, staying in hotels, and especially finding peace walking on the beach to the sounds of the waves. Beverly danced, loved all kinds of music, and loved laughter.

Beverly was preceded in death by her siblings, Glenn Cooper Jr., Betty Hixon and Jimmy Cooper; her son, Kenneth Amos; and spouse, Charles Amos.

Survivors include children, Teresa Amos of Grayslake, Ill., Robin Amos of Slidell, La., Charles Amos II of Bastrop, Texas, Sally LeBeau of Dallas, Texas, Mary Tamayo of Beaumont, Susan Amos of Smithville, Texas, Glenna Smith of Austin and Betty Anne Amos of Lebanon; grandchildren, Sandy McGee, Christina Bird, George Kenneth Gruber, Kevin Louis Gruber, Erin Childers, Steffanie Haas, Jackson Amos, Cullyn Sawyer Haas, Cooper Carter, Alden Smith, Morgan Carter, Addison Smith, Asher Smith, Madisen Tamayo and Justin Edge Rafford; and great-grandchildren, Kenneth "KJ" Tezeno , Kayana Tezeno and Rylie Jayne Amos.
