Inis Ruth Allen, 89, of Muncie, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Liberty Village Healthcare in Muncie.
Inis was one of eight children and was born February 17, 1924 in Livingston, Overton County, Tennessee to the late William and Emma (Maynard) Dial.
Inis was left hearing impaired as a result of a childhood accident that many thought she would not survive. As a result of her hearing loss and due to the era in which she grew up in the rural areas of Tennessee, she would not advance beyond the sixth grade. In spite of the many challenges that confronted her, Inis managed to endure and go on to be a loving wife and mother of three. She learned to listen with her heart instead of her ears. She was loved and cherished by everyone fortunate enough to have known her. Where she lacked in education, she exceeded with wisdom, possessing a heart so true and genuine that she left a lasting impression on all she knew.
Inis attended Allen's school in Tennessee and came to Muncie in 1941 to work at Ball Brothers and did so for several years. She also worked for many years as a salad maker at Jimmy Carter's Skyline Restaurant. A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, rummage sales and shopping.
Inis' home was home to everyone and she took great pride in nurturing not only her own children but also the other children of the neighborhood, making certain no one ever went hungry. Although Inis lost her husband to a premature death, she never succumbed to being negative or losing hope. Her entire life was a continuous act of unselfish, unconditional love, a love that will remain and be cherished by everyone she touched. Inis was happiest when she could spend time with her family and friends.
Inis is survived by her three children, Jack L. Beaty, Karen S. (husband: John) Boling and John H. (wife: Bethany) Allen all of Muncie, a step-son, Jack (wife: Jill) Allen of Lebanon; her grandchildren, Michael, Amy, Brianna and Elijah; her great-grandchildren, Tim and Abby; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Jennifer Cowan. She is also survived by her extended family and many friends, who will forever miss the joy and love she bestowed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Arthur Allen; three brothers; four sisters and her daughter-in-law, Pam Beaty.
