Born in Belle Center on Nov. 23, 1921, she was a daughter of the late William Alfred and Carrie Esther Rose Hubbard. She married Robert Glen Baker on June 24, 1939, and he died July 23, 1982. She also was preceded in death by a son, John A. Baker on Feb. 18, 2006, and a daughter-in-law Sandy Baker on June 25, 2008.
A 1939 graduate of Belle Center High School, she was a retired teacher and taught in the Belle Center Elementary School building all but one year of her nearly 28-year career. She served as a substitute teacher in the Ben Logan and Indian Lake school districts and worked at the Belle Center Free Public Library upon her retirement.
Survivors include two daughters, Margel (John) Day of West Liberty and Miriam (James) Baier of Huntsville; a son, James W. Baker of Belle Center; a daughter-in-law, Karen Krock Baker of Westerville; 10 grandchildren, Kenny Day of Bellefontaine, Bryan Baker of Cadiz, Ky., Steve (Jauneth) Day and Susan (Lynn) Karg, both of West Liberty, Darren Baker of Westerville, Sandra (Marvin) Ober of Cable, Tracy Baker, Brady Baier and Brieanne (Corey) Sullivan, all of Belle Center, and Brittony Baier of Huntsville; two sisters, Avonelle Shaw of, Palmetto, Fla., and Carolyn Reed of Athens; and 12 great-grandchildren, Eryn, Adrian and Ariel Baker, Courtney, Conner and Caylee Karg, Taylor and Kelsey Day, Dayna and Jenna Ober and Samantha and Cain Sullivan.
She was a member of the New Richland Baptist Church and was a former member of the Fides Circle of King's Daughters and the Ladies Auxiliary of Willard Stout American Legion Post.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Belle Center. A memorial service begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Richland Baptist Church with Cheryl Siegenthaler, Green Hills chaplain, officiating.
A committal of cremains will be conducted at a later date in the Belle Center Fairview Cemetery
