Margaret was the daughter of Dr. Forrest and Marion Young. She was the granddaughter of Sidney A. Young and Lennie H. Johnson. The latter being Orange Grove farmers in San Bernardio County, CA.

Margaret was the devoted wife of George H. Sutton, Jr. for fifty-six years. After marriage in 1957 they first lived in Rialto, CA, moving to Ukiah in 1963 and then to Porterville in 1988.

Margaret majored in Sacred Music at the University of Redlands and was a substitute teacher for the Ukiah Unified School District for 15 years before returning to school to become an elementary band teacher. She also was an organist in numerous churches. She was the organist and choir director for the Ukiah Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for many years.
