Lucy Baker, 88, Retired Orofino Resident, Dies
OROFINO--Lucy Baker, 88, a retired forest lookout and a resident of the Orofino area since 1910, died Sunday at the Orofino Convalescent Home. She had been a resident there one year.
Mrs. Baker, the widow of Calvin Baker, retired from the Whiskey Creek lookout several years ago. She and her husband had worked as summer lookouts for both the Clearwater and Potlatch Timber Protective associations for several summers prior to his death about 25 years ago. She continued the summer employment after his death.
Mr. and Mrs. Baker also had farmed at Nezperce, Cavendish and Weippe. He also worked as a logger at Bruce's Eddy, now the site of Dworshak Dam.
Mrs. Baker was born March 31, 1884, at Coffeyville, Kan., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Noble. As a child she moved to Colorado, where she met and married Baker in 1903. They moved to Orofino in 1910.
Mrs. Baker is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leola Snyder, Orofino, and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted by Gilbert's Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Weseman Cemetery. The Rev. Oliver Bittleson, pastor of the First Church of God, Orofino, will officiate. The family has suggested memorials to the North Idaho Children's Home, Lewiston.
