|Birth: ||Jun. 15, 1862|

Mary Jane Shepherd was the daughter of James Thomas Shepherd, Jr. AKA Thomas A. Shepherd (1837-1920) and Nancy E. Nance (1845-1871 to 1877). She married Harvey Rymel 16Jan1879. They were living in Moreau, Cole Co, Missouri on the 1880 census (Mary Jane listed as age "18").
On 10April1901 Mary Jane Shepherd Rymel/Rimels (age "32") married "E. R." [Edward Richard] Adams in Pulaski Co, Arkansas. . Mary Jane is listed in her maternal grandmother's will as "Jane Adams" and "husband E. R. Adams" in 1910. Mary Jane (age 46 yr) and Edward (age 40) are living in Sedalia, Pettis Co, Missouri on the 1910 census with 2 children listed, Ethel Adams, age 8 and Forest Adams, age 6. Edward Richard Adams died in 1914. (He was a Deputy Constable. He may have been previously married ca 1896 to a Grace.)
Sometime prior to 1920 Mary Jane Rymel/Rimels Adams married a W. E. (B?) Searcy. They are living in Pettis Co, Missouri on the 1920 census along with Mary Jane's children Ethel and Forest Adams and Mary Jane's father, "T. A. Sheppard". And Mary Jane has done the impossible and instead of aging 10 years she has gotten 6 years *younger*!
So, a word to the wise: Mary Jane Shepherd Rymel Adams Searcy's death certificate gives her birth date as June 18, *1874* and her age at death as 54 years 6 mos and 17 days. However, family history lists her birth date as June *15*, 1862. Early census records support the birth year of 1862. She obviously deducted years from her age on the census records. It appears she moved her birth year up each time she married a younger man to match her age more closely to his!
