George Washington Hugley, son of Hiram and Mary hugley, was born in Hickory County, near Cross Timbers, MO, October 9, 1856, and departed this life after a long illness on November 22, 1943, at the Hadley memorial Hospital in Hays, KS.
He was united in marriage to Anna Martha Reed, on August 18, 1875. To this union were born fifteen children, eight of these preceded him in death.
The earlier part of his life was spent in northern Missouri and southern Iowa. In 1905, he with his family came in covered wagons to Kansas and made their home near Zurich. In 1914 they moved to eastern Colorado, and homesteaded some land. While there his wife became ill and passed away May 3, 1918. On October 21, 1927 he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Mendenhall of Plainville, KS. And their home has been in Plainville since that time.
The deceased was converted at the age of 21 years, and united with the Protestant Methodist church. He was a kind and loving father and a man who valued his word.
Besides three infants, those who preceded him in death were William L., Guy, Floy, Fay, and Mary Maude.
The seven living children are Claude of Genoa, CO; Barnett, of Crocker, MO., Burl of Tallemook, OR; D.P. of Plainville, KS; Harvey of Adair, OK., and Mrs. Anna Glee Ludlam, of Rush, CO.; and Everett of Big Cabin, OK.
He also leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, Mrs. Alice Hugley; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Campbell, of Big Cabin, OK., thirty-three grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Church of the Nazarene, Plainville, Friday afternoon, by Rev. H. O. Brunhau. Interment was made in the Plainville Cemetery.
