Carl John Alexander, 64, of Evergreen Shores, St. Ignace, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Mackinac Straits Hospital long-term care.
He was born Feb. 14, 1939 in Manistique, Mich, to Carl John and Florence (Cline) Alexander. He moved to St. Ignace when he was about 16 and lived in Evergreen Shores for many years.
He worked construction and was a member of operating engineers. He also was a commercial fisherman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa Indians
He married Sharon Green on April 2, 1959, in St. Ignace. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1999. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Laverne; and two sisters, Delores and Darlene.
He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Crowder of St. lgnace, two brothers and their families, Bill (Rose) Alexander of Levering and Mike Alexander of Muskegon; three sisters and their families, Catherine (Ky) Cornelius of the Detroit area, Shirley White of Texas and Marian (Jeff) Gedion of Alpena; and one grandson, Chad Crowder of Spring, Texas.
A memorial service took place Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the Moose Lodge of St. Ignace. Burial of his cremains will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cheboygan.
