A Cenotaph for a young child David Collver who died in a terrible accident. The family story relates he was crushed under the wheels of his family's wagon during their move West from Ohio towards Southwest Michigan (Cass County per 1850 Census). He was buried by the side of the road, and the Family Bible provides this commentary:
"David Collver was born in October the 22 - 1844" "Age four years and seven months old" "David Collver Died May the 22 AD 1849 Mcleen Township New Berlin Shelby County Ohio"
In those days Fort Loramie, Ohio was called New Berlin. The roadside site and geographic location of the Furrow Cemetery strongly resemble both the family story and the Bible inscription. And, because Furrow Cemetery already had an earlier 1842 burial it may have been an obvious and appropriate site for David Collver's burial.
