Death: Sep. 26, 1905

Charles Mitchell Alexander, Sr. was a husband, father, farmer, builder, and Assistant Postmaster in the Bishopville area. He and his brother James Benjamin Alexander lost their father early in their lives. Benjamim M. Alexander was a Confederate soldier who was wounded during the War Between the States, was sent home, and then died. When C.M. became older, he erected a marker at New Hope Cemetery at Carter's Crossing in Darlington County to identify their father's grave, and inscribe who Benjamin's parents were: Rev. Abner M. Alexander and Massey Belk Alexander. Their mother remarried to a Mr. McCaskill.

C.M. was a grandson of Rev. Abner M. Alexander and Massey Belk Alexander of old Sumter District, South Carolina, and a great-grandson of Jeremiah Belk of old Sumter District.

He was married to Martha Jane Crosswell (b May 23, 1864 d Jan 26, 1918). Martha Jane's burial location is unknown. She was born in the old Sumter District, and died in Bishopville, Lee County, South Carolina. She was daughter of John J. Crosswell and Martha Jane Mixon Crosswell, and a granddaughter of Jehu Mixon. She may have remarried since several important matters of Charles Mitchell were handled after his death by a daughter, Josephine Alexander Brown. Her mother was only 53 when she died.

There is a set of twins at Salem Church in rural Bishopville, whose marker says "Sons of C.M. and M.J. Alexander", close to his brother and aunt's graves at Salem Church's cemetery.
