Tressie Poteat Chapman, age 89, of Morganton, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. in Valdese, N. C. A native of McDowell County, Tressie was born April 4, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Earl Daniel Poteat and Nellie Freeman Poteat. She was a member of Mountain View #2 Baptist Church and retired from Florida Dept. of Transportation. She was a long-time Sunday School Teach and a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America Auxiliary. Preceding Mrs. Chapman in death was her husband Mitchell Lenoir Chapman and daughter, Vicki Ann Chapman.
Surviving Mrs. Chapman are daughter, Virginia Chapman Cobb of Pompano, FLA and son, Mr. Shannon Chapman and wife Joady of Pensacola, FLA; four grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Interment will be in Western N. C. State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
