John Wesley DICKINSON was James Leslie DICKINSON's identical twin brother. Wesley and Leslie were the 8th and 9th of nine known children born to Samuel Abel DICKINSON and Laura Ann FINLEY.

Stories passed down through the family are that their parents had difficulties telling them appart by their appearance, and their teachers could not tell them apart.

The top photo at the right shows the twins (unsure which was which in the photo) in c1917 (thus, c12 years old) with two of their grown dogs and a puppy.

The second photo at the right was taken c1925 (thus, when the twins were c20 years old).

Happy times on the family farm in Green (near Kenedy) Texas.

Wesley's paternal grandfather was Dr. Samuel Burling Dickinson (1804-1881) who was descended from four passengers aboard the maiden voyage of the Mayflower from England to America in late 1620. SBD is a qualifying ancestor for membership in numerous lineage orgainzations including the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the John Howland Society, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and Texas First Families.

Wesley's paternal grandmother was Caroline Elizabeth KINNISON (1818-1926) who lived under four flags in Texas and who, at the time of her death at age 107 in 1926, was believed to have been the oldest living resident of Texas at that time. Caroline was descended from Nathaniel KINNISON, a prominent planter and land owner in the Natchez, MS area in the late 18th century and early 19th century.
