Mary Ellen Adams
LODI, Calif. - Mary Ellen Adams, 86, of Lodi and formerly of Arizona City, died on June 9, 2012, at Lodi Memorial Hospital.
A graveside memorial service will be held in Garrett Cemetery in Delta, Iowa, on July 21 at 10 a.m. A luncheon will be served afterwards at the Methodist Church in What Cheer, Iowa.
Mrs Adams, a daughter of Leonard and Minnie Ellen (Holloway) Napierskie, was born on Feb. 9, 1926, in Montebello, Calif. In 1944 she graduated from Brantley Draughon Business College in Fort Worth, Texas. Upon graduation she began working at Neiman Marcus in Dallas. On Dec. 27, 1945, she married John S. Adams in Mount Pleasant, Texas. The moved to his hometown in What Cheer in 1946. For 30 years she was a dedicated farm wife in Iowa, then in 1976 they retired to Holiday Lake in Brooklyn, Iowa. The moved to Arizona City in 1986 for his health. In 2008 she left Arizona to move closer to family in Lodi.
Over the years she was active in Methodist churches, American Legion Auxiliary and 4-H and volunteered with several different organizations and hospitals. She loved to sing and enjoyed traveling, reading, knitting and westerns.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, John Sterling and Leonard J. Napierskie; and a daughter, Nancy S. Jacobs. She is survived by a son, Steven E. Adams of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Joyce Ellen Dial of Westminster, Colo., and Becky L. Clingan of Lodi; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Casa Grande American Legion Auxiliary or the Salvation Army.
