Alice was one of 7 children born to Peter Rockford and Mary Ophelia Dubois McCarthy.

Alice married Charles Bernard Cunningham in Vincennes, Knox Co., Indiana 12 Apr 1904 at St. Francis Xavier's Catholic Church. They had one son, John J. born Daviess County, Indiana, but when Charles' father A.J. (Andrew James) moved to South Dakota, Charles agreed to move his family as well.

He and Alice settled in Sherman Twp., where they had 4 more children, Bernard, Adeline, Joseph and Ellen Mary.

In 1920 Andrew and family, including Charles and Alice's family moved to Allegany County, New York, but no one really liked it and by 1930 they had all returned to South Dakota. Alice and Charles this time setting up home in Clark, Faulk County.

In 1920 Charles sister Mary had passed away leaving 3 children and Charles took in his nephew, Maynard Paulson, known as Barney, whom he and Alice raised as their own.

Charles died in 1953, and Alice moved to Waterloo, Iowa with her daughter Adeline -- Mrs. Joseph Hoffert where she died in 1964. She was taken 'home' for burial with her beloved.
